5 out of 6 as Blues beat Arundel
(April 10, 2013)
Sidley United 4 - 2 Arundel - SCFL Division One - Tuesday 9th April 2013
Sidley United continued their excellent recent form, making it 5 wins from the last 6 matches as they beat Arundel 4 - 2.
Blues started at an excellent tempo and were soon in front. Matt Darby with an assist of the season contender as he laid off a ball fired in to him expertly at the feet of Ricky Martin, who's finish was equally as excellent.
Sidley were rampant during the opening half hour and Greg Berry made it 2 - 0 after an excellent tackle from captain Chris Agutter set Sidley on the attack again. Against the run of play Arundel pulled a goal back 5 minutes before half time when Sidley didn'y block a cross from the left and at the far post Lewis Jenkins turned home.
Sidley got a big let off early in the second half as Arundel hit the post with Nessling losing his angles but they weathered the storm and the two goal cushion was restored when a free kick was turned into the goal by an Arundel defender under pressure from the excellent Berry.
Sidley then made the game safe on 79 minutes when a great ball over the top found substitute Terry Payne, and he expertly lofted the ball over the goalkeeper to make it 4 - 1. Arundel's David Herbert scored the goal of the night in stoppage time, weaving through at least 3 Sidley defenders before curling his effort into the top corner, which even the Sidley bench applauded. But it was scant consolation as seconds later the whistle sounded to end the match 4 - 2 in Sidley's favour.
Another excellent all round performance and a result that lifts us up to 14th place in the table. Another big game Thursday when we travel to Rye United, but we go there as one of the form sides in the league and playing extremely well.
Sidley team: Nessling, Willett, Rea, Cooper, Cruikshank, Agutter, Martin (Trickett), Boyd, Darby (White), Hales, Berry.(Payne)
