Sidley beat Ninfield in good friendly
(August 24, 2014)
Sidley United continued their excellent pre season form with a 4-2 victory over Premier Division outfit Ninfield United on Saturday.
A youthful Sidley united seemed up against it in the first few minutes against an organised Ninfield side but then began to get on top and took the lead through an excellent strike from Anthony Briscoe which flew into the too corner on 7 minutes.
Another good move a few minutes later yielded the second goal, also from Briscoe after some neat football involving Mark Funnell up front saw Briscoe shoot low into the net, although the Ninfield goalkeeper may feel he should have got a hand to it.
Ninfield didn't threaten off but just before half time hit the crossbar with a direct free kick which luckily for Sidley bounced over the top.
In the second half the game became a bit more frantic and it was Sidley who capitalised first as another strike from the edge of the area, this time from James Walker found the corner. Ninfield responded with a good strike from Ash Carey a few minutes later high into the net from the edge of the area.
As Ninfield looked to push on, the impressive Leeroy Short went on a run forward and was played in down the wing. His attempt to cross flew over the goalkeeper and into the far corner with a Sidley forward waiting for the tap in.
Disappointingly, Sidley conceded a soft goal in the dying seconds as the full back lost the ball and Ninfield bundled the ball over the line. This shouldn't detract though from a positive Sidley performance with plenty of promise for the season ahead.
Next up is a friendly against Hooe on Thursday at 6.00m.
