Fire destroys Gullivers clubhouse
(March 01, 2015)
The former home of Sidley United FC, The Gullivers has been burnt down after a fire last night.
The building, which has been derelict since the club folded in April 2013 suffered extensive damage which will surely consign it to oblivion.
It is devastating for all those with fond memories of Sidley glories at the ground in years gone by and who had hopes of one day returning to the ground. Whoever takes on the location will need to start again from scratch.
Whilst no official word has been given about the cause of the fire, arson remains a very likely possibility given recent attacks on other county grounds over the last couple of years. Sadly, leaving the clubhouse in the state it was made it a target for hooligans and it was inevitable that something of this nature would occur.
We as a club hope that the perpetrator's are found and dealt with in the harshest manner possible for gutting something that meant so much to so many. Clearly they have no respect for history or their community.
