Old Hastonians Match Preview
(December 16, 2015)
It's first against second on Saturday as Sidley United travel to Bexhill Road to face our closest challengers Old Hastonians.
The Stones come into the game 11 points behind Sidley but with 2 games in hand and have tasted defeat just once this season - an early 5 - 3 loss at home to The J.C. Tackleway.
They have a strong forward line with players with ex Sidley connections. David Pugh, who briefly played for the Blues in County One, is the leagues top scorer this season with 14 goals and another ex Sidley forward Dom Clarke also turned out for them in their last outing. Their back line is not so formidable though with 13 goals conceded in their 7 league games so far.
Last Saturday they enjoyed a comfortable 6 - 1 win over struggling Ticehurst, but in truth they were never really tested. It is sure to be a different match for them on Saturday. Judging by their performance, The Stones appear to like to play nice, intricate football around the edge of the box and they have pace on the wings so the Sidley defenders will need to be wary of getting caught too high up the pitch.
As for Sidley they come into this game as the only side in the league to hold a 100% record with 9 wins from 9 and last week enjoyed a walkover win in the Sussex FA cup as AFC Hastings were unable to raise a team.
Hopefully the added rest and chance to recover from slight knocks will pay dividends for the Blues as they go in search of a 10th league win, knowing victory will extend their lead at the top of the table to 14 points going into the Christmas break.
At the same time as our game, Crowhurst and Eastbourne Rangers face each other, with both sides still harbouring ambitions of catching us. Sidley can take a massive step towards the title on Saturday if results go in their favour.
Kick off at Bexhill Road is at 2pm and we encourage as many fans as possible to come and support the boys to a potentially very important result.
