Wadhurst United Match Preview
(January 27, 2016)
It's top against bottom this weekend as Sidley United travel to bottom side Wadhurst United.
It is the first of the 'third matches' to be played in the Division, given the withdrawals of three teams and the decision to face each side three times.
In both matches against Wadhurst this season, Sidley have prevailed by a 2 - 1 scoreline. In the away game, Blues raced into an early 2 goal lead through Mark Funnell and Gary Hempe but they couldn't put the game to bed and a late Wadhurst goal made the final few minutes more nervy than they should have been.
The return match saw Wadhurst take an early lead in heavy rain which was quickly cancelled out by James Bailey before Lee Roberts steered Sidley into the lead before half time. As the rain got heavier both sides battled hard but there were no further goals.
Wadhurst come into the game bottom of the table with a solitary win from their 8 league games so far. However they did book their place in the Quarter Final of the Sussex FA Cup last week with a 5 - 3 win over West Sussex Football League side East Dean. Indeed Wadhurst were the last team to beat Sidley in the league - on February 7th 2015.
Sidley enjoyed a comfortable 4 - 0 win over Ticehurst last week in the same cup competition with defender Gary Hempe scoring a first half hat-trick and a John Carey strike doing the damage.
With injuries clearing up and players returning, Blues are almost at full strength again as they look to pick up another win to extend their lead at the top of the table.
Blues are scheduled to entertain Crowhurst next weekend but if Crowhurst are successful in their cup game this weekend then the Blues will have a weekend off.
Kick off at Washwell Lane is 2.00pm.
