Eastbourne Rangers Match Preview
(February 01, 2016)
It's a huge game on Saturday as Sidley travel to nearest league rivals Eastbourne Rangers on the 3G pitch.
The Blues will go up against the top scorers in the Division - a Rangers side with 37 goals from 8 league games. Among those goals they have prolific scorers in Daniel Wilkes who has 13 league goals and Ben Jesson and Jamie Strong both with 9.
However they may not find the goals so easy to come by as they face a Blues team boasting the best defensive record in the league with just 5 goals conceded.
Both teams are coming into the game in good form. Rangers enjoyed a 7 - 0 victory over Ticehurst last week to close the gap at the top of the table to 6 points, this coming a week after Sidley also saw off Ticehurst 4 - 0 in the Sussex FA Cup. Blues have had a week extra off action after last weekend's game at Wadhurst United was postponed. However unless we suffer any really extreme weather before the weekend we can safely assume this game will definitely be on.
The two sides met early in the season where two second half goals from Arron Scrace and James Bailey won the game for Sidley. In a game where both sides had chances, it was the Blues who came out on top that day but we know Saturday is going to be a different game on the 3G pitch.
The home side may feel under more pressure to win the game though as they attempt to eat into the 6 point gap between the sides. If Blues were to win the game the gap would rise to 9 points which could well be decisive in the race for the title.
Whatever happens on Saturday, the two sides have developed a healthy respect for each other and no doubt both will be competitive for the remainder of the season.
We will face Rangers once more in the league following this game but it is yet to be revealed whether this will be at home or away.
Kick off is 2.00pm at the Eastbourne Sports Park. We encourage as many supporters as possible to come and cheer along the boys in what could well be a key match in our season.
