Easter weekend preview
(March 23, 2016)
Sidley United face 2 huge games over the long holiday weekend in what could be a potential opportunity to take over the lead at the top of the table.
First Blues travel to The J.C. Tackleway on Saturday at Barley Lane before facing title rivals Old Hastonians on Easter Monday at Bexhill Road.
The game against Tackleway will be the third meeting of the sides this season, with Sidley running out 3 - 1 and 1 - 0 winners in the previous two encounters. The match is also Sidley's second of the 'third fixtures' and the second of 3 away from home meaning after Monday that the Blues will only have 1 more away league match this season.
Tackleway appear to be an improving side but they suffered a narrow 2 - 1 defeat to an also improving Wadhurst United last weekend. They currently sit second bottom of the table with 6 points from their 9 league matches to date. They possess some talented players though and recently gave Eastbourne Rangers and Old Hastonians close matches so Blues will need to be focussed if they are to come away with the 3 points.
On Monday attention turns to a first match of the season against Old Hastonians, a side who will still fancy their chances of taking the league title. Blues will welcome Hastonians twice to Hooe Rec before the end of the season and these games are sure to have a huge impact on the top of the table.
Hastonians have been beaten just once this season and are the only team to have beaten Eastbourne Rangers away from home. They have a number of players with ex Sidley connections and will be a stern test for the Blues. They are currently 12 points behind Sidley with 2 games in hand.
However with current leaders Eastbourne Rangers only playing on Saturday, Blues could usurp them at the top of the table if they can take 6 points from these two games. Whilst that will be difficult, that has to be the objective as Sidley look to grab the initiative in the title race.
Msrk Funnell will miss both games as he completes his suspension but Chris Sanderson is able to return. Both games kick off at 3pm and the club would be grateful for as many supporters as possible coming along to both games to hopefully cheer the boys on towards two positive results.
