Sussex FA Junior Cup Final Preview

(April 04, 2016)

Sidley United have the chance to lift a first trophy since the club left the County league when they take on Wadhurst United in the final of the Sussex FA Junior Cup at Culver Road, Lancing on Wednesday evening.

The Blues have won both league matches against Wadhurst United this season by a 2 - 1 scoreline and with our opponents showing recent improved league form, Sidley will need to be fully concentrated for the 90 minutes if they are to lift the cup.

This is how both teams made it to the final:

Wadhurst United:

First Round: A bye as opponents Stedham United could not raise a side.

Second Round: A 3 - 2 win away at ESFL Division Two side Catsfield.

Third Round: A 5 - 3 victory at home to East Dean I.

Quarter Final: A 4 - 3 away win after extra time to Montpelier Villa II.

Semi Final: An impressive 2 - 1 win over ESFL Division One rivals Crowhurst.

Sidley United:

First Round: A comfortable 3 - 0 win away to Partridge Green.

Second Round: A bye as AFC Hastings could not raise a side.

Third Round: A 4 - 0 win over league rivals Ticehurst in a game switched to Sidley's home pitch.

Quarter Final: A come from behind 3 - 1 win at Midway 1948 FC of the Brighton and District League Division One East.

Semi Final: A convincing 4 - 1 win over a youthful Woodingdean Wanderers from the same league as Midway although Sidley finished with 9 men.

Sidley will be without striker Lee Roberts who is away and long term injury victim James Godden. Captain Mark Funnell returns from suspension and the Blues are otherwise at full strength. The Blues will hope to reap the benefits of having had a rest at the weekend.

Wadhurst had a tough game against The J.C. Tackleway and although they led 2 - 1 in the end they had to settle for a 3 - 3 draw. Their top scorer is Ryan Bateman with 4 league goals to his name.

The game kicks off at 7.15pm to allow for the possibility of extra time / penalties. Sidley United are running a coach to the game, leaving at 4.30pm and anyone interested in booking a place should contact Dickie Day on 07487694888.

Sidley United FC will be grateful for all the support of fans who can attend the match.
