Eastbourne Rangers Match Preview
(April 13, 2016)
Sidley United take on Eastbourne Rangers this Saturday in a game which could potentially determine who will lift the Division One title at the end of the season.
Blues come into the game 3 points behind Rangers but with 2 games in hand on the leaders. Rangers took advantage of the Blues 2 - 2 draw with Old Hastonians last week by beating Crowhurst 3 - 1.
A Sidley victory would put the Blues level on points with a Rangers side who would only have 1 match remaining and surely would give the Blues a huge opportunity to lift the crown. On the other hand a Rangers win would put them 6 points clear of the Blues and by virtue of their superior goal difference they would surely be champions if they saw off Crowhurst in their final league game. Rangers would also confirm promotion to the Premier Division if they were to win Saturday's match.
The sides have a victory apiece in the league encounters so far this season. Sidley won the early season game at Hooe Rec 2 - 0 thanks to late goals from Arron Scrace and James Bailey. Rangers won the reverse game 5 - 1 on the 3G pitch in a game Sidley led thanks to an early Gary Hempe penalty but which ultimately turned out to be a rare off day for the Blues.
Rangers are the top scorers in the league but they have lost 3 times this season so Sidley must go into the game positively and feeling that if they are fully focussed and play well they can get a positive result.
Blues may well find the week's rest beneficial after a tiring last week clinching the Sussex FA Junior Cup after extra time against Wadhurst United before last Saturday's tough encounter against Old Hastonians. The third placed Stones hope to play catch up to the top two when they entertain Crowhurst tonight.
Sidley are expected to be without Lee Roberts who is away but otherwise hope to be at full strength for a vital game.
Kick off at Hooe Rec is 3.00pm. We encourage as many fans as possible to attend and support the boys.
