Old Hastonians Match Preview

(May 05, 2016)

Sidley United finish the league campaign at home to Old Hastonians on Saturday where the Blues will celebrate being crowned Division One champions.

Blues' title triumph was confirmed as both Wadhurst United and Crowhurst were unable to fulfil recent fixtures, giving the Blues an unassailable lead. Sidley haven't actually played a game of football since defeating Eastbourne Rangers 1 - 0 on April 16th but there is little danger of Saturday's game not being played.

Old Hastonians come into the game with a theoretical possibility of clinching second spot and promotion. However to accomplish that they would have to win by a 22 goal margin to climb above Eastbourne Rangers. No doubt they will be going for goals and that may play into Sidley's hands.

Our two encounters this season saw Sidley claim an impressive 3 - 1 win at Bexhill Road with all goals coming in the first half before the return match saw Sidley take a 2 goal lead only to be pegged back to a 2 - 2 draw.

Both teams have scored in every match so far this season and with Hastonians' slim promotion ambitions added to the mix, goals should be expected. Regardless though, Sidley will celebrate at the final whistle a league and cup double having also claimed the Sussex FA Junior Cup in only our second season playing in the East Sussex Football League.

Kick off is at 3.15pm and we encourage as many supporters as possible to come along and enjoy the final afternoon of the season.
